Doreen McNeill named a finalist in the 2018 Miles Awards

Doreen's painting 'Transience' (shown above) has been selected as a finalist in the fifth installment of the much anticipated biennial Miles Awards and exhibition at Tauranga Art Gallery. As always, the finalists and award winners exhibition features a diverse range of works from Bay of Plenty artists.

 

The exhibition is open daily at the Tauranga Art Gallery between June 16 and September 2, 2018.

Make sure to vote for your favourite work in the exhibition in the People's Choice Awards, generously supported by the Bay of Plenty Times, which will be drawn on after the exhibition closes.

Perceptions - An Exhibition of New Works by Doreen McNeil, Graham Crow and Kristian Lomath

PERCEPTIONS will be opening on 10th August 2018 at Zeus Gallery, 35 Chapel Steet, Tauranga and features the latest works from Doreen, and artists Graham Crow and Kristian Lomath.  This exhibtions promises art lovers an immersive experience of abstract representations which reference ideas of natures light, patterns and rhythms.  Check gallery opening hours on the link below.

Colour Shape and Line – Solo Exhibition Opening 25th August 2017

   Doreen McNeill is set to open her first solo exhibition in four years, Colour Shape and Line, at Zeus Gallery on Friday 25 August at 5:30pm.   The opening event will also mark the launch her new publication titled Expressions in Colour Shape Line.  This wonderful book gives an in-depth insight into the artist and her career, and features full colour images of her recent artworks.

   The exhibition will be available to view at Zeus Gallery until the 9th September, 2017.  Zeus Gallery can be found on Marsh Street (physical address is 35 Chapel Street), Tauranga, and is open from 10am until 5pm Tuesdays to Friday and from 10am until 3pm on Saturday.

Expressions in Colour Shape and Line – a ‘must have’ art book for abstract art lovers

   2016 signaled a new artistic approach for Doreen, and by using her skill and imagination to its fullest, she began really delving into the exploration of expressions in colour, shape and line.   This creative voyage and some of the resulting artworks are highlighted in this inspired 44 pages publication.  

   Expressions in Colour Shape and Line features an informative introduction by art writer, Pete Morris, and an artist statement from Doreen in which she explains her artistic journey.  Her career record makes for an interesting read, however it is the glorious pages bursting with full colour prints of her recent artworks that really makes this book a must have for any abstract art lover.   Available for NZ$30.00 (softcover) and NZ$55.00 (hardcover) plus any applicable P&H cost, copies can be ordered directly from the artist today.

Fancy Some Weekend Garden and Art Inspiration?

This year’s Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival marks the tenth biennial festival, in which we celebrate the beauty and diversity of both our Western Bay of Plenty gardens and the creativity of our artists.  This year the high caliber of artists on the garden trail present a huge range of creative endeavors.  Doreen’s wonderful artworks, created especially for this event, can be viewed in the Neilson Gallery at Art Stop 20. 

A Festival Hub at The Lakes will again provide a humming base for the Bay of Plenty Garden & Art Festival and it is here that you can view more of Doreen’s artwork in the All Things Floral art exhibition. 

The Bay of Plenty Garden and Art Festival runs from the 17th – 20th November 2016. 

New Works & Genuine Reductions: Don’t miss ‘Room 2 View’ on this weekend for two days only

Saturday 28th November & Sunday 29th November 2015

Room 2 View opens at 10am this Saturday and this group exhibition features four artists from the Bay of Plenty including Doreen McNeill, Ashley Grant, Sue Dent and Rob McGregor.  The exhibition is on show at the studio of Sue Dent located at 10 Old Highway, Pahoia - near the Pahoia School off State Highway 2 between Te Puna and Katikati.  New works from all four artists will be available and there will also be a limited number of very affordable artworks some of which have had genuine reductions off their normal gallery pricing.  Open from 10am – 6pm on Saturday and from 10am – 5pm on Sunday this exhibition is the perfect opportunity for a country outing to meet some truly talented artists and view their original artworks.

‘Nature’s Elements’- A New Exhibition featuring the latest work by Doreen McNeill

Bounce into Spring and into Monterey Art Gallery in Howick, Auckland to see the most recent work by Doreen McNiell.  ‘Nature’s Elements’ opens this Saturday, September 19th, and will show until the 3rd of October, 2015.  The exhibition also features artwork including sculpture by Viviane Keenan.  Together these two established artists from the Bay of Plenty will intrigue you with their latest creations which celebrate all the elements of nature in a truly unique and surprising way.

Put Some Colour In Your Life is a television series which creates a digital record of the many varied talents and techniques of some of todays most respected artists.

In 2012, Put Some Colour In Your Life began to air nationally throughout Australia, and the series has since been picked up by free-to-air New Zealand, Sky TV, Foxtel Aurora 183, and Virgin Airways worldwide.

In this week’s episode follow series creator and host, Graeme Stevenson as he travels to Tauranga, New Zealand, to film artist Doreen McNeill in her studio where she shares with him fascinating insights in to the creation of her magnificent abstract artworks.

‘View 2’ – Now Showing at the Incubator, Historic Village, Tauranga

Last night Doreen’s latest exhibition ‘View 2’ – a joint exhibition with film maker and visual artist Jimmy Colzato, opened at the Incubator in Tauranga’s Historic Village.  It was a truly wonderful evening with an outstanding display of creative talent by both artists which was very much appreciated by the many who attended.  The exhibition runs for three weeks so be sure to drop in to the Incubator and view this very compelling art exhibition.

View 2 – A joint exhibition featuring the work of Doreen McNeill and Jimmy Colzato

You are invited to View 2, a mixed media art exhibition featuring abstract and figurative works by two very unique artists, Doreen McNeill and Jimmy Colzato.  The exhibition will include individual artworks by each artist and a number of collaborative works created especially for this exhibition.  From Doreen’s enlightening abstract works to Jimmy’s distinctive figurative works, you will enjoy an outstanding exhibition bursting with colour and eclecticism.   View 2 will be on show at Tauranga’s well established art centre, The Incubator which is located in the Historic Village on 17th Avenue.  The opening reception will be held on May 8th from 6pm – 10pm and both artists will be available to talk about their individual and collaborative artworks.

Back By Popular Demand – Painting in Flux 3 Art Workshop

2nd and 3rd May 2015

Book your place in Doreen’s new workshop ‘Painting in Flux 3’ to be held on Saturday 2nd May and Sunday 3rd May 2015.  Learn how to paint your own skillful abstract masterpieces in the beautiful professional art studio of artist Sue Dent located in Te Puna, Bay of Plenty and under the inspiring guidance of Doreen McNeill.  The workshop will run from 9.30am – 4.00pm on Saturday and from 9.30am – 3.00pm on Sunday.  Places are limited to ten students only.

Doreen will be running another fabulous weekend workshop at Sue Dent's Studio in Whakamarama, just outside Tauranga, on the 14th and 15th March 2015.

This is your unique opportunity to see Doreen demonstrate her own way of freely playing with paint and guiding the materials into a pleasing whole. Learn some creative new painting techniques with mixed media - you will come away with some wonderful new ideas and maybe a finished or nearly finished canvas of your own.

Update: New Zealand Garden and Art Festival 2014

The New Zealand Garden and Art Festival was a tremendous success and congratulations must certainly go to Festival Director John Beech and his dedicated team.  Garden and Art Lovers travelled from near and afar to the Bay of Plenty where the festival was held last month.  Art Stop 21 was a popular stop where festival goers saw a joint exhibition of works by Doreen McNeill and Ross Neilson.  It was a very successful exhibition with many excited visitors leaving with a new artwork for their collections and which I’m sure they will enjoy for many years to come!

New Zealand Garden & Art Festival 2014 – Two Exhibitions for Doreen

17 - 23 November 2014

The New Zealand Garden & Art Festival 2014 celebrates the beauty and diversity of the Western Bay of Plenty region’s gardens and the variety and creativity of its artists.  This year Doreen will feature in two exhibitions.  The Te Puna Garden Trail includes Art Stop 21, The Neilsen Studio at 27 Florence Lane where Doreen’s stunning artworks will be shown.  ‘Masterclass – All Things Floral’ is a stunning group exhibition featuring nine of the Bay of Plenty’s most established and respected artists including Doreen McNeill.  The exhibition will be held at the Cargo Shed located in Dive Crescent, Tauranga, from Wednesday 19th – Saturday 22nd November.  For more information and garden trail tickets please visit the official NZ Garden & Art website at www.nzgardenandartfest.co.nz or click on the button below.

Painting in Flux - A Workshop with Doreen McNeill

December 6th and 7th, 2014

This is your opportunity to enjoy a wonderful weekend of painting under the direction of Doreen McNeill.  The weekend workshop will be held in the beautiful and peaceful rural setting of artist Sue Dents’ professional studios in Te Puna, just outside Tauranga.  Doreen will share her experience and techniques as she guides you through a journey of discovery and development.  The workshop is limited to twelve students only so be in early to avoid disappointment.  $120 for two days.

A Win for Doreen at the Miles Art Award 2014

Tauranga Art Gallery is hosting The Miles Art Award 2014 - this is the third biennial prize at the Gallery.  Venetta Miles was an original donor to the Tauranga Art Gallery Trust. The Miles Award carries five cash prizes, including the Supreme Award.  The exhibition of selected works will run 8 August to 12 October 2014.

 

The winners of the four main prizes for 2014 are:

Doreen Named a Finalist at Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Awards 2014

The award began as the Shell Art award in 1986 and in 1991 the Molly Morpeth Canaday Trust became the principal sponsor and the award became known as the Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award held annually in conjunction with Summer Arts events in Whakatane.

 

An exhibition of the 2014 award finalist’s (including Doreen’s work titled ‘Blue Morning’ ) is on exhibition at Te kōputu a te whanga a Toi, Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre until March 23rd, 2014.
